University of Massachusetts senior Michaela Butler placed first on 3-meter springboard at the NCAA Zone A Championships Tuesday at the Christianburg (Va.) Aquatic Center.
Butler scored 648.40 points to edge Kaylea Arnett (642.95) of Virginia Tech.
Butler was in sixth place after five dives, but she scored a 63 on her final dive — a forward 21/2 somersault with one twist in pike position — to vault into first.
UMass’ Mikhaila Eckhardt was sixth (568).
Butler will compete on 1-meter and 3-meter at the NCAA championships, held March 20-22 at the Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.
Amherst 17, Eastern Connecticut 1 — Devin Acton scored five goals, while Quinn Moroney (one goal) led the Lord Jeffs (2-1) with seven assists.
Kane Haffey added four goals. Dylan Park and Charlie Gill each had two in the blowout.
Western New England 16, Mount Holyoke 14 — The Lyons scored eight goals in the second half, but the effort wasn’t enough.
Julia Bell scored six goals and Kirsten Kilburn added three in the home loss.
