When Adrienne Pascucci first stepped on the track at Northampton High School, she had no idea which direction she was headed.

“I didn’t know anything about track and I knew (then coach Nate) Kraft was a good coach and he was going to teach me a lot. In the first two days I got to work with Natalia (Paine), who was an incredibly talented. The next day I got to learn to hurdle from Phoebe (Hopkins). I felt right away they made it feel it was somewhere I wanted to be.”

Pascucci was a quick study and during her career she became one of the most well-rounded track & field athletes in school history. After a stellar senior season, Pascucci has been named the Daily Hampshire Gazette girls track & field player of the year.

“I felt really lucky,” Pascucci said of her career. “I’ve had the chance to compete with people who are extremely talented and help bring the team championships.”

Pascucci added two more championships to her portfolio this season. The Blue Devils won the District F&G Division 1 Championship and the inaugural West/Central Division 1 Championship.

“The Western/Central outdoor meet was one of my favorites,” Pascucci said. “The team was really close and we all knew we wanted to end the year really strong and doing well in a meet that incorporated Central Mass. was a really big deal to us.”

At the district championships, Pascucci won the 100 hurdles, placed second in the high jump and was fifth in the long jump.

At the West/Central meet, Pascucci won the 400 hurdles, was fourth in the 100 hurdles and second in the high jump.

Pascucci’s growth in the hurdles took a step this season with the addition of Brandon Palmer to new coach Brian Frodema’s coaching staff. Palmer was a championship-level hurdler at Mohawk Trail.

“His help in the hurdles and long jump was just really huge,” Pascucci said. “Having a coach that can hurdle alongside me was incredibly helpful. His attitude toward track in general was great to be around.”

At the All-State championship, Pascucci placed seventh in the long jump. She then capped her career with a first-place finish and school record in the Western Massachusetts Heptathlon.

Pascucci will continue her career at Boston University, where she will compete during the indoor and outdoor track & field seasons.

“I’m really just looking forward to this level of track,” Pascucci said. “It will be a huge commitment.”
